			<p><a href="http://www.standupspeakupalaska.org/v2/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Romig-Chooses-Respect-22.jpg" rel="shadowbox[sbpost-692];player=img;" title="Romig Chooses Respect "><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-703" title="Romig Chooses Respect " src="http://www.standupspeakupalaska.org/v2/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Romig-Chooses-Respect-22.jpg" alt="" width="520" height="342" /></a>The JAVA team at Romig Middle School was honored with a  Domestic Violence Awareness Month Award (DVAM Award) for their comprehensive &#8220;Choose Respect&#8221; campaign. The students had worked with  Abused Women&#8217;s Aid in Crisis, Inc. (AWAIC) in Anchorage  to apply for a 2010-2011 Stand Up Speak Up Youth Mini-Grant. The Mini-Grant helped them to continue to educate their peers on healthy relationships and dating violence.</p>
<p>Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau was present at the ceremony and was very impressed with the  teachers and studenTs.  On Monday, November 14th, she honored the students and AWAIC again at the Anchorage School Board meeting. They shared their <a href="http://www.itsnotcool.me/" target="_blank">video </a>with the school board, which will also air on the Anchorage  local school board cable channel! GO ROMIG MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!</p>

<p>Youth members of the Mat-Su Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition designed a <em>Choose Respect </em>poster contest as a way to &#8220;engage youth in the campaign and to contribute positive social norms and peer influences&#8221;.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Conference of Young Alaskans</strong></p>
<p>The Conference of Young Alaskans is a gathering of 55 young Alaskans to discuss the future of the state.  Delegates must be between the ages of 16-25, be an Alaskan citizen and interested in the future of Alaska.</p>
<p>Applications are available a<span style="color: #0000ff;">t </span><a href="http://www.youngalaskans.org/"><span style="color: #0000ff;">www.youngalaskans.org</span></a> and are <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">due Friday, September 30th at 5pm</span></strong>. </span>COYA 2012 will take place in Juneau, January 4-7th.</p>
<p>If selected all costs are paid. Alaskans of all backgrounds and from all areas of the state will be selected. The process is an intensive 4 day experience, but it is very fun and rewarding.  Delegates are urged to put serious effort into the application as the pool of applicants always greatly exceeds the number of possible participants.  All qualified Alaskans are encouraged to apply.<br />
