Past Mini-Grant Winners Honored: Romig Middle School

The JAVA team at Romig Middle School was honored with a  Domestic Violence Awareness Month Award (DVAM Award) for their comprehensive “Choose Respect” campaign. The students had worked with  Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis, Inc. (AWAIC) in Anchorage  to apply for a 2010-2011 Stand Up Speak Up Youth Mini-Grant. The Mini-Grant helped them to continue to educate their peers on healthy relationships and dating violence.

Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau was present at the ceremony and was very impressed with the teachers and studenTs.  On Monday, November 14th, she honored the students and AWAIC again at the Anchorage School Board meeting. They shared their video with the school board, which will also air on the Anchorage  local school board cable channel! GO ROMIG MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!
