Juneau teen leaders attended the Lead On! conference last October and brought what they learned back to Juneau in hopes of helping Juneau youth. The group focused their community service project on helping 5th grade students transition to middle school. With AWARE’s support, the Lead On! youth hosted a weekend leadership retreat for local teens to come together and create a presentation they could offer to 5th graders which would promote a healthy transition from 5th grade to middle school. The teens came together and prepared poetry, public speaking, rap, and other art forms within their presentation. On May 14th, the group presented to Harborview Elementary 5th graders. The teens had a chance to share many of their life experiences and answer questions asked by the soon to be middle schoolers.
